Default Looking to buy 1st LS2 or is it?

Looking at a 99 camaro it had the stock LS1 with 6 speed ( t56).

The seller said he got a wrecked GTO with a running ls2 6.0 with 80k mole. The seller claimed he pulled the 6.0 engine and bolted the ls1 heads, intake, and all bolt on accessories to make the swap a simple " plug and play" install. From the research I did it's not a simple plug and play swap. Would this setup make sense to do? Unfortunately I am almost 3 hours away from the car so I'm trying to do as much research as possible before making the drive/ buy. It's basically the ls2 short block and the remainder is ls1 ....

My Intensions for the car is a weekend toy / driver which may see the track from time to time for fun.

The 6.0L for the GTO's started in 2005 and I believe it had the 58X crank trigger. Ask him to take a picture of the crank sensor and I believe the color of it is an instant tip off.

Actually the 2005,2006 gto has a 24x reluctor. I own a 2006 gto ls2. E40 ecm as well.

I have an 06 ls2 out of a gto in my car, 24x.

If its an ls2 the knock sensors will be on the side of the block and the cam sensor will be in the timing cover instead of behind the intake.

Thanks I'll see if he can send some pictures. I'm sure it's a ls2 but why would he use ls1 heads/ intake if he had the entire engine to begin with....if it doesn't make sense to me I get weary

Also how much would the ls1 bolt one to the ls2 block hurt the overall performance of these engines? The ls2 do pretty well stock but I use to eat them in the GTO'a with my old 99 NA dodge neon😜...

I think I would stay away from that Frankenstein unless you know the seller personally or get a smoking deal.

If it is an LS2 you should have a big 6.0 cast into the back of the block.

Swapping back to LS1 heads makes no sense. Most guys go the other way.
