Default 4l80e floor shifter? ?

So most aftermarket shifters are for 4l60's what's it take to make them work on 4l80e? ? I understand that there becomes a prob with getting trans into first manualy? Or is it something else?
Is it a mod to the shifter gate, or linkage or what??
I'm wanting to use a pistol grip/ratchet type shifter .
Thanks

The swing arc of the stock shift lever bracket of the 4L80 is too large to be compatible with the gate travel distance of a 4L60 shifter, which ends up causing you to not be able to engage manual first gear using the shifter on a 4L80. The fix is to shorten/reduce the swing arc of the stock 4L80 lever or employ the use of an aftermarket lever.

Not the selector shaft itself, the lever bracket that bolts to it and has the pin at the other end for attaching the cable. If you use the stock lever, you'll also need to grind/file down the diameter of the cable attachment pin as it's too large for the eye of the 4L60 shifter cable end to fit over.

Ok got it now, so bottom line it's totally doable to make a shifter work that's made for 4l60's

Yep, as long as you have the patience for the job and welding capabilities.
