Default Flowmaster question

I just had a local muffler shop add two FM 50's to my Monte Carlo SS. After getting it home, I noticed the techs welded support rods to the rear surface of both mufflers. Is the sheet metal surface of the mufflers designed for this purpose? I am leaning to taking it back to the shop but I wanted other opinions too.

Those mufflers are 16 gauge steel, there is no issue with welding to them almost anywhere..... I would prefer they were hung more towards the center.....

They also did a fairly sloppy job, most people just don't take any pride in there work anymore..... Everything is hurry, hurry, hurry.....

Thanks for the reply, I just checked with Flowmaster tech support. They confirmed there is no structural issues with welding directly to the muffler surface. Only issue now is the visual eyesore.

Is this something sort of show car? Does it run and sound pretty good? Are they hanging high and centered enough for you? If this isn't a show car it really doesn't matter. Far too many ppl focus on pretty instead of functionality. If it isn't broke, don't fix it is what I live by.

They're all steel. Welding hangers to them is normal.
