Mounting Stereo Next to PCM? I did a LS2 swap on my '62 Bel Air a couple years back. We mounted the PCM behind where the stereo would normally go. My stereo was a Custom Autosound unit. Well the Custom Autosound unit just went out. Figured I would just replace it then I started reading the online reviews, not good (stereo was in the car when I bought it). So, I am now upgrading the stereo to a standard single DIN unit.
I may be able to squeeze the new stereo under the PCM. This would mount the stereo where it would normally go.
My question/concern is, is the heat that is generated from the stereo going to harm/damage/affect the PCM?

People put computers in the engine bay in Arizona in the summer so probably not, and a stereo shouldn't be making too much heat regardless. If concerned stick a thin sheet of rubber or something between them.

How close are they? I'd be more likely to fab a little heat shield out of some aluminum sheet or something. Stereos can get hot enough so you can't touch them, and could melt rubber or something if it's too close.
Are you running any amplifiers? If yes, the radio won't get as hot because there won't be a load on the internal amplifier. (It's potentially going to be susceptible to radiated noise) If not, a heat shield would be better. Leave enough room for air ciruclation. At least 1/2" if possible,

Thanks guys. It does have an external amp. Guy at the stereo shop said with one, it will not get all that hot.

These PCM's were designed to live under the hood in their factory application. The minimal heat generated from your radio won't even be noticed compared to the radiant heat from living next to the engine for 100,000 miles.
