Watere Pump
This question may be hard to follow, but I am going to ask it anyway. I am putting a 2003 5.3 Vortec engine in my 1985 S10 pickup. The water pump upper outlet points upward and with the hose on is higher than the radiator filler which would make it near impossible to bleed out all the air. I am planning on putting a LS1 waterpump on that has the outlet coming out straight forward that is below the radiator fill cap that would resolve the issue. On the original waterpump there is a hole drilled for the belt tensioner right next to the thermostat housing that I was going to use for a idler pulley for the alternator relocation. Now the LS1 water pump does not have hole there , but the casting is there but not drilled. My question is can I drill and tap that blake boss to the same size of the Vortec water pump for my idler pulley without drilling into the water passage or is the casting different and I am going to hit water? Any help would be appreciated. Have a good day.
