2000 6.0 to 4L60E
- Buy a 4.3 V6 4L60E transmission. They have the proper depth to work with the long crank 6.0. (I have done this several times)
- Buy a late Gen II 5.7 V8 transmission. They also have the proper depth to work with the long crank 6.0 (harder to find)
- Swap cranks from your 6.0 to a short crank.
- Machine a .400" spacer for your bellhousing to offset the .400" longer crank. (completely impractical for 99.9% of us)
Obviously the last option is the most expensive and least practical, the first option is the cheapest and most likely to be found in a salvage yard or deal site.
Even though there are internet rumors to the contrary, in my personal experience the V6 4L60E isn't any weaker than the V8 variant. Now if you are drag racing, that's another story. If you like burnouts, donuts, hard but realistic and daily driving conditions behind a reasonably stock engine, it's fine. Especially if you keep the transmission cool and keep it full of fluid.
