Grind top of 4l60e ? Hi everyone,
Would it be ok to grind a bit off the top of a 4l60e trans ? Mainly the bellhousing bits that foul with the tunnel.
Trying not to modify my trans tunnel too much because the car the motor is going into is original.

I had to grind mine a little in my 1964 Chevelle. I have the late style (around 2006) 4L60E, that has the removable bellhousing. It is quite a bit larger than the earlier ones. I had a 700r4 in the car before and it fit pretty well. In order to fit the 4L60E I had to do some major massage work on tunnel and grind a bunch of the ribs on the bellhousing. It may be a little weaker than it was originally, but still looks a whole lot tougher than the 700r4 I had before this trans. I would grind if you need to. I think I ground some on the ears that stick out on front of bellhousing as well. 4.5" angle grinder with a flap disc mad quick work of it. Good Luck.
