Default Transmission?

I just bought a 5.3 iron block that I am working on for my 69 Camaro. My question is transmission? I have a rebuilt and beefed up 700r4 with corvette servos. Should I use a spacer and use the 700r4, or go 6l80e or T56? Price is a consideration. Just wondering what others think. Thanks.

The 700 and 60 are basically the same so the is nothing wrong with your 700. The money is already spent on it so you might as well use it. You'll just have to figure out how your going to hook upnthe TV cable.

I guess it would depend on what the 69 came factory. A 6L80 would probably be too big for the trans tunnel. Six-speed would slide right in, a built 4L60 would do the job.

I'd go with the 700r4 since you already have it and upgraded.

6L80 is a big **** and requires a factory pcm to control it. At this time there is no way to use an aftermarket controller or manual shifter. This adds cost and extra work for the harness, tuning, fitment, PCM, etc.

T56 is still one of my favorite manual transmissions. Every time I consider trading/swapping it out I still default and keep it. Only way I'd change it out for another manual would be for a built TR6060 or "bulletproof" Muncie.

Sell the 700, if don't go with the T56, and get a built 4L60E and let the pcm control the transmission. Getting the correct geometry correct on the 700 TV cable is an ordeal and that can make or break the life of the tranny.

Thank you guys for all the comments. I have done some research, my Camaro came with th350, I changed it to a 700r4. Everything I read tells me that a 4l60e will bolt right in. No modifications and I can use the same crossmember. Anybody have anything different?
