Default Need a bit of experienced advice please

I have a low mile 5.3lm7
ls6 manifold/tb/injectors
TPC 212/218 .550 lift 114lsa and ls6 springs
Ism trying to make an informed decision on a damn transmission. When I mocked up this car I built it around a 700r4 because I had one and was going gen1 but now iam doing this . I sold the r4 and So I thought 4l60e because of size and tranny tunnel hell with a baged car. But now i hear they **** the bed and might be better to go 4l80e? My local guy will build me one for 2200 with his idea of parts but nothing performance oriented. I can get one from gm for 1895 free shipping that says it will handle 375foot ponds of torque. So will my engine set up fall inside that level? Or would it need to be "built"? Or should I go tips and if so how much bigger at the bell housing area would it be ? I haven't planned very well and all ready bought a pre made harness for a 4l60e ? Can I **** can the granny wiring and run something else? Lots of amateur questions sorry. Ism not rich but don't csre, about paying for a transmission but our local guys stent performance gurus, more practical mechanics. Any recommendations in the Rocky mountain region would help also. Thanks chsrlie

A mild built 4L60e should handle it. I had mine rebuilt with some HD parts and it is holding up to high 12's ok.
You can also look at the 4L65e or 4L70e ... those are a bit stronger.

But consider how you well be driving it... I know many have the 4L60e and drive it pretty hard on the street and for the most. They have been holding up ok.. but a stage 1 built would be a good idea.

Just my 2cents

I would use the 4L60E. It has a way better 1st 3.06 vs 2.48, and will better matched to the 5.3 engine. Plus has a better overdrive .7 vs .75.

Just a stock internal 4L60E with a Corvette 2-4 servo and a Trailblazer 4.2 torque converter will work well. And just tune the trans shift pressures, shift points etc.

Default Trans

Nice build! I'm also voting for a 4L60E. We (older street rods) will not be using them to tow, autocross or drag every weekend which means the trans will have an easy life as long as it's cool properly. Will it be done enough to go to the Rocky Mountain Nats in Pueblo in June?

A 4L60E is a fine transmission for a street cruiser and fun car. The people who hate them either have a ton of miles on them, make a ton of power or spend lots of time at a track.

One thing to remember, heat is your transmissions worst enemy. I use an external plate / fin style cooler on all my personal custom cars.

Thank you all for the replies! Well iam glad that the consensus is that a 4l60e should be fine. I will either buy one from gmpp or have a shop build one that has the parts mentioned installed. After more searching here I found several that ship free but since I don't have a core or bell housing it might not be worth it. Performatransmission has a fair price and I didn't see alot of bad reviews but we'll see. I had planned on a tranny cooler built in the radiator but I'll go ahead and plan for an external one too? Don't think I'll have the car together this summer. Turns out building a car is kinda hard and I can't seem to pick the right numbers for the lottery so iam going slow. Thanks charlie
