I have a 73' chevy pick up truck, with a 4l80 swap, and someone metion if I change the speedo in the truck to some kind of electronic one, and adaptor can be added to the wires on the tail shaft of the tranny, and it would read out the speed of the truck?
Can someone steer me in the right direction? Thanks
You have two options. You can either change your speedometer out to an electronic one and run it off the PCM (Your transmission should already have a speed sensor tied into the PCM) or you can add an electronic to mechanical adapter module and use your existing speedometer. Dakota Digital and a few others make these modules. Here a link to one of them.
it's dead simple. grab a speedo from a 91 suburban or blazer. you don't need the drac module, just the speedo. take the whole cluster or you'll have to cut a hole in the back of the '73 cluster.
it runs on three wires. 12v positive when in key on, a ground and a 4k VSS signal.
get the VSS signal from pin 50 on your red PCM connector.
sadly I dont really know the pin out for the connections at the speedo. I just kept switching them around until it worked lol
