Default 67' C-10 L59 Swap Help!

I'm 24. mechanic and welder. I have a 67' C-10 stepside pickup. complete truck minus motor and trans. I also have a 2005 5.3 L59 and harness still in an avalanche on our lot I'm using for this build. my goal is 500hp N/A with a th350 trans. would like to take it to the "Local strip" wink wink to beat down some high school buddies in their reg cab rams but will mainly be pounding the streets on the weekends. This will be my first build. i do major mechanic work as well as welding and minor fabrication work but have never built an engine. i know how they work i just have no idea what the process is and what i have to have to make it to my goal. this will be a budget build but id like it to be as reliable as possible with cost being kept in mind. i have no trans yet but am open to suggestions. About the only way you're going to get 500 streetable RWHP out of a 5.3L engine is with a power adder - supercharger, turbocharger, or nitrous.

If you've never built an engine before, it's not that hard. If Joe Bubba Redneck can do it on the back porch of his trailer, you can do it, too.

What takes is planning, and careful attention to detail. There are lots of books available through amazon, and lots of videos on you-tube. Relax, take your time, and enjoy the process.

As you choose parts and pieces, don't be cheap. Spend the money on good parts that will last and make a difference. Never buy cheap parts, they're too expensive.

since you have a running 5.3, you do not need to BUILD an engine. You just need some essentially bolt on parts to get you to the 500 rwhp goal. Turbo with some tuning is the way to go.

Look up Sloppy Mechanics on Youtube, Matt is a member here under the id as Denmah. He has a great following on FB and youtube. My son has a STOCK bottom end 5.3 with 862 heads, a VS Racing 7875 turbo, a cam upgrade (I don't know the specs), Seimens Deka 80 injectors, homemade hotside using stock truck cast manifolds, an ebay intercooler and 2.5" piping, He had a local tuner do the tune on a stock ecm using HP tuners. He added a Walbro 400 pump to the stock tank and uses -6 push lock lines for the supply and return. Dyno proven 550 rwhp. Plans are to go high and push it a bit harder with the boost.

I would do a 4l80e trans over a TH350 unless you have a TH350 already built to handle the power...

Junkyard 4l80e with a Transgo HD2 shift kit is in my son's truck and works great with the billet triple disc lock up convertor. Matt has a 6.0 Colorado that has made over 1000 rwhp with the same trans a junkyard.
