Default 6.0 to th400?

So I bought an adapter to mate my 2005 6.0 to a th400. I notice my motor has a flange sticking out the back of the crank and isn't flush like some I have seen. I haven't took the motor off the stand yet but I tried pulling the flex-plate to look it over. Does this look right? Or do I just leave the flex plate on and bolt the adapter to it?

Default Lq4/9 to a TH400

Hello ls7nova. I hope all is well. To install the the spacer properly, you current flex plate must be removed. Please check your application. Some lq4/lq9 comes with the correct flex plate so a spacer isn't needed. Was the 6.0 connected to a 4L80e prior to removal from the donor vehicle? If it was then you don't need the spacer. Please verify this. My previous vehicle 1971 c10 had the lq9 bolted to a th400. Good luck.

Like I said, I have an adapter in the box already but the end of this crank doesn't look the same as the rest I have seen. The flexplate itself is flat. To me it looks like there might be a spacer behind the plate already from the factory

That engine looks like it was in front of a 80e and already has the spacer built into the flexplate. You can take you converter and hold it up to the flexplate and make sure it fits the hole correctly.

Youre gonna have to hog out the convertor bolt holes. I always like to put the engine and trans together and make sure the converter fits correctly, should be a small gap between flexplate and TC with trans bolted to engine. About the size of a small washer, if its much more than that ive seen ppl put washers between the 2 but ive never had to do that. You wanna pull the convertor out of the pump a very small amount, like maybe 50 thousandths
