Default Killed a PS Pump!

So,on my 1998 Jeep TJ swap, the stock non hydroboost 2004 GM 5.3 truck pump started howling when it got warm,so no biggie, swap it with another from a hydroboost and same problem.Check everything over,Jeep has a Saginaw box, everything appears ok.The second pump was from a hydroboost truck, after a couple of short runs it really starts howling and blows the plug off the hydroboost return port on the reservoir.Pull the pump off and it is destroyed, any ideas?

It blew the return hose off the pump itself? I was thinking something was restricting it, but not sure how that could have happened to just the nipple on the pump. It was the upper one right? The lower one is for the steering and the upper one is for the hydroboost. Does the hydroboost work well? Maybe its bypassing a lot of pressure? What part of the pump is actually destroyed?

If the nipple on the hose, going into the steering box is too long, it will crush the valve and not let the fluid return to the pump. It burns the pump up in seconds. I had new hoses made and the shop left the nipple too long. You can see the valve if you look inside the the port. I chased the same problem for a week and changed everything on the car except the paint. Lol. A GM engineer told me the problem. I ground the excess length off the fitting . Worked great.

No hydroboost on this Jeep, just tried the pump because it was on hand and just capped the return port used for a hydroboost system. The shaft is flopping around as if it has no bearings left, was ok before I installed it,actually felt better than the first pump.I was thinking a clogged hose or some other restriction as well but all is clear.Going to try shimming the relief valve on the first pump to cut the pressure down a bit,we'll see how that goes.
