Default GM A Body Intercooler Location

Hey Everyone,

I have a 1965 Cutlass that I am swapping a 5.3L into with a turbo, but I am having a problem on where to place the intercooler. A lot of the intercoolers that I have seen are too big in width and depth to be mounted in front of the radiator. Does anyone have any ideas of where else too place the intercooler, mods to make it fit, or recommendations on any intercoolers that would fit. Also if anyone has any pics that would be great. Thanks for all the help.

Default Intercooler mounting

i am doing a 69 a body turbo. I put mine right behind the bumper. I bought a cx intercooler with the inlet and outlet pointed stright down. I had to clearence the valance panel and i am running hood pins so i do not need the hood latxh in the center. It is not going to fit. The intercooler is 3 inces thick.

BB,
Thanks for all the info. I think my biggest problem is if i get rid of the hood latch then I will not be able to bolt down the bottom of my grill. There are two top bolts and one bottom bolt that are used to screw in my grill and of course the bottom bolt screw hole is located in the latch bracket. I guess I could either just get rid of the latch bracket and let the two top bolts hold the grill on (which that grill is heavy) or make a bracket for the bottom bolt to screw into.

What did you bolt your intercooler to?

Do you have a part # for the intercooler?

Thanks again for all the help

i made a couple of brackets and bolted it to the bottom of the underneath side of the core support. I am on vacation when i get home next week i will take a measurement on it and see which one i bought but i believe it was the biggest 3 inch they made with the inlet and outlet pointing straight down. It really hasnt been that bad just a lot of cutting and fabbing brackets.

iam thinking that this is the one IC0053. After doing all the fabbing on the hot side. It would be easier to do twins if you have that option.

BB,

I found this from Trick performance.

http://www.shop.trickperformanceprod...ntercooler.htm

I looked at the installation guide and all I would have to do is make an A bracket for the intercooler to bolt.
