Default 56 ls swap

I'm swapping out a sbc to a 5.3 in my buddys 56 and got the motor and Trans in.Bought a psi harness and corvette fuel pump and reg but have few questions. It has factory harness but was changed to one wire alt and trying to fig out if there is a main wire for the everything in car and if I can still use the starter wires that was on sbc. Then just wire the psi harness to run motor? Also he just bought a new gas tank when he swapped to sbc it was straight 6 where I can run the return?I think I seen you can buy a fill neck and put it in there.Any help would be great. Thanks

There's an excellent thread here "alternator bible" that should answer your question on the alternator. In my research I found that you should use the alternator that came with the engine. Turns out there is lots of interaction between the alternator and the electrical system. Was the battery relocated (to the trunk)? For best electrical system performance use heavy cable to connect the positive terminal to the starter AND heavy cable from the negative to the starter bolt, then jumpers to the frame and body. For the connection of the alternator use at least a #8 wire going to the starter. When converting to F.I. I've always put a new poly tank in that will accept an in-tank pump. Use a standard GM pump in case a replacement is necessary while on a road trip.

Yeah I was going to use the alt that came with motor was just wondering if I could do like I did on my fox body swap and find the main hot wire that run everything like lights, and stuff and hook it to battery then the motor would use psi harness and car would use factory harness.Would just have to find main hot wire, and I think use factory starter wires?

The PSI harness comes with the control wires for the alternator. You just need to run the 8 GA power wire from the alternator to whatever you are using for your power lead. I am using a Ford style solenoid on the fenderwell with an auxiliary junction block and that is where I ran my alternator wire. You can go right to the starter if you are wiring the starter the typical way.
