4L60E Shifter Pattern???

Default 4L60E Shifter Pattern???

I'm about 3/4 through resto-modding my 65 El Camino with a LS2 and 4L60. My plan is/was to use a G-Body floor shifter modified with a detent plate to accommodate the 4 speed 4L60 and, a stock Chevy GMC Neutral Safety Switch. With it all assembled and ready to start the I discovered that the gear selector pattern is backwards from both the shifter and the neutral safety switch.

I bought the transmission off of Craigs List and don't know what it was installed in when it was new. The PO that I bought it from had it installed behind an LS2 - in a Mustang . The shift lever - on the transmission - extends downward. in theory, it would be possible to reverse the shift pattern by turning the lever over and have it extend upward. But, in this installation, the lever would hit the transmission tunnel and the shifter cable bracket could not be aligned.

The Question: Are there 4L60 applications with the gear shift pattern is different and, if so, can it be changed?

No, they're all the same. You need to flip the lever over, and if it hits then some clearancing on the floor will be necessary, but I cant imagine its that tight?

Yep, arm on the transmission is upside down.

I don't think so. There is just enough floor clearance to turn the lever over but, with the lever pointing up, there is no way the shifter cable brackets will ever align.

Also, there is only one way to mount the GM neutral safety switch -that supplies power to the starter when it's in neutral or park and, to the back-up lights when it's in reverse - and that is also backwards. The gear selector shaft runs through the neutral safety switch so, regardless of how the lever is attached, as it's currently mounted, it provides power when the transmission is in 1st and 3rd gear not in neutral and park.

I could resolve this by buying another shifter that has the cable attached from the rear - instead of from the front as my current shifter is configured -
so the push/pull operation is reversed. And, by buying a separate neutral safety switch from Dakota Digital. BUT, I already have the console that goes with the current shifter and, a new shifter, console and neutral safety switch is not in the budget.
