Default Sealing Sender Threads - Multiple Questions

Getting this wrong now can can create lots of headaches down the road so I apologize for the 101 Level questions. I just want to make sure I've got this right while it's easy:

Part #1 is an -08AN O-ring boss that will thread into the Improved Racing oil adapter just beneath it. Am I correct that the male -AN threads on the O-ring boss should receive no Teflon tape or sealant because the O-ring makes the seal? Just put some oil on the O-ring and it's good to go?

Part #2 is a M12x1.50 sender that will thread into Part #1. As you can see, there is a crush washer. I'm not sure what, if any sealant should be applied to these threads?

Part #3 is a 1/8" NPT sender that came with a Pro Sports Oil Pressure gauge. Unless it's missing or I've lost it, there is no included crush washer. I'm fairly certain the NPT threads need Teflon tape or a liquid dope or equivalent thread sealant? Should I put a crush washer under this sender as well?

Part #4 is a 1/8" NPT plug that came with the Improved Racing adapter. It, along with Part #5, the OE GM M16x1.5 oil pressure sender (which is going back in the stock location at the rear of the intake manifold) have some kind of pre-applied red thread sealer.

What is the preapplied red sealer and is it reusbale?

Thanks!

Tipsy

Looks like 3, 4, and 5 all have pre-applied sealant, so I would think no more is needed. I believe, however, that this sealant, like any that you would do yourself, is a one-use application. If taken apart, use more sealant.

Typically the only thing that needs sealant are NPT fittings. If it has that red sealant already, you don't need to add anything. However it may not seal well if reused, so you might want to add more sealing paste or Teflon tape if you're reusing it.

If it has a crush washer or an O-ring, it typically does not need sealant. The red stuff on #5 is probably just there as an extra measure, but the threads aren't really what is sealing in that case, the crush washer is.

As far as AN fittings, they don't require any sealant either. The flared surface on the end of the male fitting seal against the concave surface on the inside of the female fitting. They don't need to be tightened too much either. Over-tightening can actually cause them to leak.

All good info. Thanks for the comprehensive reply.

That "red stuff" on #5 and #3 is a lock tite, not a sealant. The seal is made by the crush washer. #3 really needs a crush washer to seal. 1&2 don't need any sealant since again, the seal is at the crush washer/O ring. I have no idea what is on #4

Also you really shouldn't use teflon tape on anything on a car. Too easy to get pieces inside oil passages etc. The Navy would court martial anyone they caught with teflon tape in the nuc plant. Loctite #37615 comes in stick form and is rated for fuel usage. Most standard teflons are not.
