Default Without any temperature reference will the computer go into closed loop?

I am in the process of modifying my harness from a 2000 Camaro for a stand alone transplant of a LS1.

My question is this;
Many of the online resources have one pull the wires for the temperature sensor in the Left side of the head. Without any temperature reference will the computer go into closed loop? Seems it would be impossible.
Specifically I am referencing the ETC.
Black wire on terminal 80.
Yellow wire on terminal 74.
I guess to be fair the modifications to the harness were to "be able to run the motor". Sure it will run but I need it to go into closed loop.

A second question would be;
Is their any way to use the computer output for an aftermarket temp gauge?
Thanks
Rick

I'm not sure what you're trying to do.
Are you saying you want to remove the ECT sensor from the harness/PCM completely?

The ETC is needed to make a lot of calculations in the calibration.
You can use the output to run can buss gauges. Steve

Removing it completely was the recommendation. Made no sense to me. After writing this out it has become obvious to me that it is needed and I am going to leave the wiring intact unless someone can explain why not. Silly internet gobbledygook recommendations. If I use a stand alone gauge I will hook it up some where else besides the computer sensor location.

The stock ECT sensor is one of the most important ones in the stock PCM, removing it would almost be impossible.

Remove the plug from the passenger side head where the ECT sensor would go and use it for a stand alone.
