Default Fuel pump question

I have installed aeromotive in tank pump 11569. I keep blowing fuses when I stomp on the throttle from take off.
aeromotive had a diagram in the box with the pump I bought. They say to run a 10 gauge wire for the power through the relay. BUT their pump only has like a 12 or 14 gauge wire pig tail comming off of pump ?
What are you guys doing with your in tank fuel pumps as far as wiring ?

I'm going to do the Aeromotive Phantom 200 fuel pump on its own dedicated circuit of at least 20 amps. What else is on the circuit you are using?

Any idea of what else is on that circuit? The fuel pump runs constantly so stomping on the throttle shouldn't effect it at all. A larger diameter wire will actually remove resistance from the circuit so the pump could draw more power so that's not your issue either unless you've currently got a wire that's nicked and grounding out under the chassis somewhere. A short on the line or too many amps being drawn on the line is what takes out fuses.

What fuse is it in fuse block... or is it a dedicated in-line?
What amp rating on the fuse?

10g from front (batt) to back (relay) is good to limit amp drop due to line length. What is gauge/length from relay to pump and what is the desired draw from pump. I assume it is 12g but thought I'd ask!

A pump going bad could demand a higher amp draw on start and spike the fuse for too long causing it to blow.

I agree with a dedicated circuit for pump.

I hate pre-built relays with whimpy pigtails! Never made sense to me to go from 10 to 12 on source side. That said I really don't know it that actually matters since the line length from 10G to relay via 12G is short and 12g will support 30amp for a short distance.

Here is a good example of a chart to use for figuring out gauge/amp/distance.

In case you ever want to build your own relays, pretty cheap and done your way.
