Default 84 Chevy C10 LS Swap

Hello all,

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right area, I've made the decision to do an LS swap in my 84 Chevy C10. Currently have a inline 6 in there, ready for something new and reliable. I have a general idea of what is needed for the swap.

I'm looking to get a junkyard 5.3 engine and trans combo. Are there years I should stay away from? From what I've called around they categorize the years from 01-07 and 07-and newer. Anyone in the Houston area know of some reputable places? From the 01-07 years I've been told $1,500 for a complete LS engine/trans/harness. Is that reasonable?

I would love to do the swap myself, but am very skeptic if I could accomplish it. Dropping the engine and trans in should be no problem, but the little things and wiring I feel would get the best of me. Again, anyone know of any shops in the Houston area that are reliable for these swaps without charging an arm and a leg?

Any help is appreciated!

$1500.00 for a decent running combo is a decent deal. I hate wiring and its my weak point but its simple to get it running. Only takes like 3 wires to get it motivated with an after market harness or the original re done. My 85 C10 been running fine for a few yrs with zero problems. Do it yourself or it will be much more expensive than you can imagine.

Yeah I get chills every time I think about the wiring. But if 3 wires is all I need to make it go then that sounds a lot better!

With this engine swap will it affect my rear setup?

I added a yukon posi 3:73 to my dif and thats it. Your power level will be fine with the 10 bolt you probably have in it. I have made a few pedal to the floor launches with a 3500 stall with 60 foot of rubber and still spinning threw 2nd gear.
