Default 55 Chevy with LS1 engine

OK I need help with a technical issue, my buddy has a 55 Chevy BelAir with a 4L60E transmission and a LS1 engine, he is complaining it is not shifting correctly ALSO the rev Counter is not working as it should, as the TCU and the ECU rely on input from the engine RPM could this be causing his issue ?.

I'm just speculating here, however I doubt that the fact that is tachometer is not working properly is causing his transmission not to shift. I feel like that is a gauge issue that is separate from the transmission issue. Is he using a modified stock harness or a stand alone? Has he tested the transmission pigtail to see if he is getting ignition power to one of the pink wires?
