Default Question: LT1 K member with LS engine

I don’t wanna swap out the K-member in my 95, and I want to swap in an LQ9.

1. Does an LS1 style steering rack bolt right up to an LT1 K-member?

2. Do I just need to get LS swap engine mounts to bolt to the K-member and then just use the clamshells that come with the LQ9?

thanks!

The LS1 rack will bolt on to the LT1 K-member. The mount hole pattern is different between both K-members, so you can't bolt the LS1 stands onto the LT1 K-member. Hooker makes LS swap engine stands that bolt directly to the LT1 K-member.

Can I use the clamshells that are on the LQ9 with those swap K-member mounts?

No, they are designed to be used with 4th-gen F Body motor mounts.

Yes, that is correct. Here's some installed images of the Hooker brackets for the V6 K-member...the LT1 K-member brackets attach to the engine the same way but have a base design that is specific to match

the attachment holes in the LT1 K-member.

Thank you for the information and pictures! It’s nice that it makes sense now. I hate wondering for too long. I read something about an offset clamshell or mount, on this forum. So if I use LS clamshells and the LT1 to LS1 swap brackets, the engine will set properly in the Engine bay? (It appears that the k-member mount is offset back an inch or so).

Wow that steering linkage barely clears. Perhaps, that’s the stock steering linkage that came on the V-6 car?

I’ve read that an LS steering linkage is needed, in order for it to clear.

I’ve got some shopping to do

The stock LS K-member and engine stands and V6 and LT1 K-members were all digitized to be able to overlay their geometries in a CAD model. The Hooker engine brackets were designed within that same model to place the LS engine in exactly the same place it sits on the LS K-member and engine stands. Yes, that is the V6 steering rack you see in the photo, which clears everything fine as long as you use exhaust manifolds. Using headers requires the steering rack and shaft to be swapped out to the LS1 rack and shaft assembly.

I appreciate your help! I’m anxious to get my LQ9. Found one for $900 and just waiting for it to ship.

Now, the search for a T56 and related parts begins.
