Default 5.3 swap issues

Hey everybody, I just registered to this forum, so I'm not extremely familiar with it yet, but I have some questions. I'm 17 and have done a 5.3 swap on my '72 c10. I built everything except motor mounts, driveshaft, and the exhaust piping to do the swap (yes including the harness). I have used great info from the site along the way. I drove it for about a month and ran into a knocking problem, so it came out and I tore it down. I found metal shards in cylinders 7 and 8. Could not figure out what ad happened, but the bottom end looked good (besides pistons), valves, heads, etc looked good, no trash in intake, air cleaner, heads, etc. so I reassembled and reinstalled the motor, all cleaned up. Drove it about 10 miles before the same noise came right back. Oil is clean as can be. I'm really confused as to where the metal could be coming from. It's about 18-22 gauge thickness (if I was guessing). Pulling the engine this week to get back into it and figure everything out, but I'd like some clues as to what I should be looking for. Thanks in advance.

Without showing us pictures of said metal shards, you’re not giving us much to go on.

It could have come from the intake. Where did the intake come from?
When an engine blows up they sling metal all in the intake. And eventually they will come out and end up on the pistons. Ive seen butt connectors and nuts and bolts on the pistons from the intake.

I always shake them and wash them out!

Check the cam bearings. No real idea on how the shards may have gotten into the cylinders but they are a known issue on these engines.

While I agree with the above comment about intakes, I would never recommend washing one out, last thing you want to do is push water down into the cylinders

Default The fix (hopefully)

Motor, intake, and most parts are all off a stock 5.3 truck in our local lkq. That being said, somebody must've threw a bunch of sheet metal trash in the intake before I got it (throttle body was off). We only could find it with a bore scope at a local shop. Anyway, I've got a new intake from a buddy and the motor is going back in after we watch some Friday night lights this week. Hopefully good to go now

We also went through the rest of the motor to be sure and other than some minor piston scarring, it all looks good.
