Default knock nsors

Hello , I'm putting a LQ9 in a hot rod , building my own stand alone harness ( trying to ) Why do I need the knock sensors ? , can I eliminate them if I have the ecm programed to not recognize them , Or would it be wise to keep them .

thanks
Vern

Well , I'll answer my own question after exhausting research , If you were not planning on putting in a OBD11 diagnostic port , then you wouldn't need the knock sensors ,
since they are put there for diagnostic purposes , such as which cylinder is receiving fuel - spark - ect. , which cyl. has been missing and so on , I will be keeping my knock
sensors for the reasons listed above .

thanks for the info Vern

I was wondering this same thing. I have seen people eliminate them and wondered how the tuning process was affected.

Why would you want to? That’s the question. It’s a good safety net against crappy gas, a failing fuel pump or just a bad situation with an engine running really hot under a heavy load. Pretty stupid to remove and disable them.
