LS Oil filter confusion!! Hi there:
I have swapped a 2001 5.3 Vortec in to my 1979 Camaro. I have used LS1 oil pan from 98-02 Camaro (part #809-12628771). The oil filers that are listed for this oil pan (AutoZone, rock auto, …) are A-Delco PF46 or Mobile1 M1-107 but the oil pan male filter housing is too big for these filters! What fits are AC-Delco PF48 or Mobile1- M1113.
Cab anybody shed light on this? What am I missing? For some reason when I bought the oil pan a year ago I bought the filter AC-Delco PF48E for it but I couldn't find out why!

The later f-body pans went to metric threads on the filter, I don't know what year they changed, I know my buddy's 99 f-body uses the SAE threaded filter, I'm like you have a bunch of SAE filters so I bought a '99 filter adapter.

My new LS1 pan takes PF48, for some reason I knew it when I bought the oil pan but when I went to change the oil filter I totally forgot about it and went with what the reference book at Autozone suggested (PF46) which is for older pans 
. Unfortunately I didn't compare the two oil filter before I filled the new one with oil prior to trying installing it. Wasted few dollars to learn a new lesson!

Ha I did the same thing once, and because I refuse to throw away something brand new, I have a random filter full of oil in a box on my shelf that will probably be there until my family throws it away after I die.
