Default Header Bolt Hole Problem

So long story short, one of my head's was damaged and needed to be replaced. The local machine shop sorced a good core and swapped over springs and valves and did a valve job etc .

I have the head and everything bolted on, but when I went to bolt up the headers, one hole was definitely off center .The bolt will not even begin to thread it's so far off. All the other bolt holes line up. I ran a bolt through without the header and it went in fine.

It's not the headers that are off because they bolted right up to my old head without modifications!

So are these things ever off from the factory???

I highly doubt that it is "off" from the factory. Try putting the problem bolt in first, then the other ones. Something is just throwing it off just a hair.

I went back out and started with the problem bolt and worked my way out and it threw off the number one header Bolt on the driver side which was the hole that got completely destroyed and the reason for me needing a new head in the first place .

The problem hole on the header flange is definitely much smaller than the other holes which is why they weren't lining up.

It all makes sense now. It looks like I'll be doing some drilling tomorrow .

yea make that hole a little more oblong and it should be fine.

are you putting a bolt in and threading it all the way down or just getting a few threads engaged when starting the next one? typically with headers and other stuff you want to start all of the bolts and then draw them in once they are on. gives you a little more wiggle room for slight variances.
