Default Introduction/Swap Help

Hello, new to this forum and I need help with a swap I’m set on doing. I have access to a LR4 4.8 for very cheap and I want to build it to make around 400 hp and put it in my 08 Tacoma. If I’m posting in the wrong forum or category please tell me where I should be asking questions.
Im not sure how to get started on making it fit on my truck and I need a wiring harness and tranny. I’ve read that HotRodHarness does a stand-alone harness for this engine.
Also I’ve taken a look that the T56 manual tranny is a straight bolt up to this engine. Could someone please give me help and more information on how I should get started with this swap, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

It will take custom mounts, cross-member most likely as well. Then there is hoping the electronics aren't too bad of a nightmare (dash/interior stuff talking to engine bay stuff). It is going to take a ton of time and money, flat out. Why not just turbo or supercharge your 4.0/2.7 (whichever you have).

Thanks for the response. There are not many supercharger/turbocharger kits for my 2.7. I came across a URD Underdog Racing Development Supercharger kit that showed dyno charts of the same truck but with the kit installed and a stage two pulley that made 255 hp. However the kit costs $4000. And the stage two pulley is $200. That is not enough hp for me at too high a price. Maybe if I source the parts separately I could put one on my truck, but to make that much power I might need to pull out the engine and rebuild it with forged parts.

I do not think anyone has really pushed those engines to the max. Look what all the older import engines can do, some can double that with stock bottom ends. I think there just is no real tuning software yet that can take care of the needs of pushing those engines further. I feel your pain with your Tacoma, I have a 2013 SR5 with the 2.7 and it is a dog. I am just telling it you will spend probably more than that 4k from URD (look at LCE too) to get a reliable LQ4 in that truck.

The URD kit says it achieved 245 RWHP and a hassle and frustration free installation. It comes with all brackets and needed parts and reviews have said that it is very high quality parts.
Here’s the link if you want to take a look:

I would at least like to make 300 HP to the wheels.

Trust me I have looked into those kits (and the LCE kits) and yeah it is pricey but it is a very high quality piece. Just trying to be realistic with you. Call them up and see if they can squeeze 300whp out of one of their turbo kits.

Alright thanks, I’ll take a look in the morning, maybe I can find an intake to do the trick.

Maybe I can do something with the intake to free up some HP, people remove the secondary filter and it helps a bit.

If it is severely dirty I imagine it would help out a fairly decent amount.
