Default 69 C/10 swap

Hey guys, I am new to the LS swap scene. I am wanting to do an LS swap into my 69 C/10. I’m thinking a 6.0, either the LY6 or L96 and have my heart set on a T56 trans.

Only performance upgrades I want to do is a cam. Leave everything else factory. I know these engines have VVT, is there anything I should or need to know about a swap like this before I pull the trigger and start buying stuff?

Deleting VVT is easy; Cam, timing gear, front cover, sensor, and a wiring pigtail. Plus programming.

Would there be any issues with tuning the pcm and having a manual transmission with this particular engine?

It has to be tuned for a manual tranny.

6.0 would be a good choice. Mount the LS as low as you can. The T56 is a long trans. Pay close attention to the drive shaft clearance as it goes thru the trailing arm cross member. You will need a high hump trans tunnel cover.

Lucky for me the truck has a high hump. Was mostly concerned if there would be trouble with the engine idling and performs I got the way it should since the engine was programmed with an auto?

Any good tuner can change the ECM from an auto to manual. You will need a harness to match. No worries there. Just don't get crazy with the cam. Keep it under 220-225 intake and 230-235 exhaust. 114 C/L. .600 lift. and you should be good. You will need better springs and push rods. Should be an easy tune. I'm running a built LS1 with a T56 Magnum. 4:10 gears in my 68 C10. Runs well and very easy to drive. Check out Capnfab for a brake booster integrated clutch master cylinder mount. I used Speed Engineering long tube headers. Yes they are China made but at less than $300 delivered sold me. They fit well.
