Steam vent question

Can I route a steam vent into a old school radiator overflow or is there a pressure issue which needs something else?

If it’s a pressurized expansion tank, then yes. If it’s an unpressurized overflow tank no. It needs to go to a pressurized area of the cooling system.

NO! You definitely can not hook it to the overflow. As the other poster said, it needs to be under where the cap seals, the overflow is above it.

In summary - pressurized reservoir - yes; unpressurized overflow - no.

Thanks went poking around and found a few solutions besides a pressure tank, the one I liked was tapping my water pump with a ntp barb, that allows me to keep a stock overflow in the C10 I'm building. Anyone else doing this, tips if you are on location and if I can just tap it while on the truck?

The other less sexy was to splice in a pipe with a temp port in the radiator hose, I can use the temp port for the npt barb fitting. Really not liking that.

You could always put one of these in your upper hose and plumb the steam vent into it...…. Simple.....
