Default '74 C10 - Cooling system

Wondering if I should take another trip to the salvage yard....

I was going to use the radiator I got with my '74 but the inlet/outlet sizing differ from the engine and in the name of keeping my sanity when it comes to parts replacement I'm thinking a complete late model setup might be best.

Any recommendation on what I should go after that fits decent? Would be sweet to use my current radiator bracket but I think that is in need of some surgery so that I can route my cold side pipe to my intake so it's not really a necessity.

I just checked rock auto for some 2004 van and truck radiators and they look like they are a little bigger than what I have but I think it works, the tank looks to have an interesting mount point so I'm not sure what to do there...Any help would be cool, thanks.

stock squarebody rad works great. use the lower SBC hose and the upper LS hose and put some elbow grease into putting it on the rad side. maybe a heat gun to soften it up or some silicone grease if you have girly hands.

i used a 2002 gmc sierra 1500 radiator in my chevelle. the original chevelle radiator should be the same size as your 74 c10. so you should be able to fit the 02 sierra radiator fine. i had to cut a couple brackets off of the top of the radiator, and i also had to use an inline filler neck since i wasnt using the sierra overflow recovery tank with the cap. but otherwise it fit great and it has the steam vent port in it.

Guess I didn't think of using a late model rad as a traditional system, I guess just plug the pressure return and your good to use the overflow and steam vent. the 2002 and 2004 rad (my engine year) are the same so if I go this route it will make it easier to remember at the parts store. Looks like a C10 would take a 28.25" core not the 34" core.

I'll get my wife out there to show me how it is done. Hopefully she is better with hoses than I am and I can use this rad, I'll route my steam vent to the water pump if she can squeeze it in place.
