Default 97-04 Harness & PCM experts

First I'd like to apologize for posting here as this really isn't a conversion however I really don't know what category to post under.

I picked up a hydro locked 98 Camaro SS off a friend for nothing and after disassembling the engine it was determined the block was toast. I'm currently looking at options for a replacement but I find myself cycling between options and can't decide on the best course.

Being a 98 the PCM and wire harness is different. The wire harness was also destroyed by mice. With that being said here are some of the options I've been looking at.

#1. C5 engine using all the accessories from it. Swap exhaust manifold and oil pan from the Camaro.
- Would accessories work?
- Would wire harness/PCM work with modifications.

#2 C5 engine but use all accessory brackets from old engine.
- Need to source a 98 harness.
- Wouldn't need a tune. (Fuel segment, speedo, etc.)

#3 99-02 Fbody engine purchased with ECM/Harness
- Need to convert to 99-02 ECM/harness
- Make necessary wire conversions.

#4 LS2, LS3, LS6 swap my C5 and use that engine for the Camaro and give myself even more headaches.

I know I'm glossing over the requirements but I just can't decide which course of action to take. I would love to get this car going again. I have nothing but great memories with 4th gens and this particular car and it's a shame the owner tried to use it as a jet ski. Other than the engine being junk it's a great example of a 4th gen with tasteful mods.

You left out getting another 98 pcm and harness with any stock 98-01 LS1. I have a 98 Harness and PCM I can sell you.

This. Then throw a craigslist 6.0 and a tune in it and have some fun.

That was kind of under option 2. I have the PCM I would just have to source a 98 harness and replace any sensors that are different? Can't imagine too many though.

C5 engines seems to be the easiest to find with decent mileage so I was really hoping I could magically do some wiring with a tune and make that work. I'd much rather spend the money on a tuner over buying a harness and any sensors/accessories that would be needed since most of the stuff on the old engine is questionable giving the amount of time it sat.

I've read that 98 stuff is inferior although I have no plans of boosting or doing any significant tuning on it so it probably wouldn't matter. Seems like staying with the 98 stuff and swapping accessories/sensors will be the easiest?

Thanks for the help. Regardless of the route I take I appreciate all ideas.

sensors/accessories are the same. there's lots of details about the <98 to 99+ pcm swap on lt1swap.com. it's pretty easy.

JY 6.0, with a mild cam, ls6 intake and LTs will put 400 to the wheel thru a manual

sell the hurt longblock minus the pan on craigslist....there's always someone who HAS TO have an LS1
