Default 69 Camaro...Engine Wont Turn Off!

I have a 69 Camaro with a LS1 engine and a factory tilt steering column. Yesterday after driving the car (I have over 6K miles on build) I turned the ignition key to the off position and the engine kept running! I gad to use the battery cut off switch in the trunk to turn off engine. Help...does anyone have a suggestion as to what went wrong and how do I fix this problem? Thanks in advance for any input to my question!

Sounds like your ignition switch is bad, not switching off 12 volts.

Something is allowing 12 volt power to continue supporting PCM operation with the ignition key off. My 896 PCM needs two forms of 12 volt power to run the vehicle:

1 - full time 12 volt keep alive power to the PCM to retain learned engine parameters.

2 - 12 volt power that is only alive during cranking and run operation.

Something is keeping run power applied to your PCM when it shoudn't.

EDIT: Yes, probably bad ignition switch.

Ah the joys of an old car!!

Believe it or not I have had copper dust in the starter solenoid cause that on on old truck once. Was shorting out battery power to the S terminal back feeding the coil ignition.

Just start tracing power. This should be an easy one.
