Default 89 g20 swap

I recently picked up a 89 g20 cargo van for my sons to work on and wasn’t really planning to do an engine swap just yet but I was in the junkyard today and came across what I believe to be a l33 in a trailblazer. The intake, coil packs are gone but I’ll just grab that off another engine. Outside of the major components what are the small items I need to grab from the truck to make the swap easier and cheaper?

Trailblazers had LH8's and/or LH6's in them. L33's are Gen III and only went into larger vehicles. BOTH are aluminum 5.3 engines, along with the LH9 and LC9.

Thanks for that info. I was just really surprised to see an aluminum block LS in the yard. They are not very common around here.

The truck exhaust manifolds will not fit. I used Speed Engineering C10 shorties on my 6.0L 87 G20 van. Stock truck pan fits fine. I used a GMT400 a/c relocation setup that puts a 96-2002 Vortec 350 compressor where the truck alternator fits and relocates the alternator to the passenger side. I used a harness out of a 2006 3500 truck. The DBWaccelerator pedal from a 2006 Ram 1500 Hemi and the accelerator pedal firewall bracket off the same 2006 Chevy 3500. Electric fans came out of a 4th gen F-car. Fan harness was out of a later model Tahoe.

Fast355 was the relocation set up just the normal accessory brackets from a 96-2000 tbi truck? I should be done pulling this engine tomorrow morning. I got off work late and was only able to work on it for about an hour. Turns out it’s a lh4. 5.3

My van had a roof leak and it ate a hole about the size of my head just over the trans cross member. So I have to replace the floor pan under the front seats and the rectangular floor pan just behind the front seats. I keep wondering if I could just move the engine back like in the 60s van and build a doghouse in between the seats. When I pull those floor pans I’ll see what it would look like in there. I got 37 inches in between the frame rails so there is all kind of space for activities. Not saying I’m dead set on doing that, it’s just something that is bouncing around my head.

I know the frame rail has a massive amount of room, but it still not wide enough for the way the truck manifolds kick out if you leave the engine in the RH offset position they came. I actually used the engine mount frame stands from a 1992 Van that helped center the engine in the opening for my 1983 G20 8100 Vortec swap. Tall deck big block fit in it with 2nd gen camaro 454 long tubes.

The brackets are custom built to use the 1996-2002 Vortec 350 alternator and compressor. I know a bracket is made to use the R4 but I believe it mounts too wide for a van engine tunnel.
