Do I need a converter

L33 5.3 in a 98 S10 sb pickup, 3:42 rear and 4l65e trans. The only mods to the engine is a Z06 cam 204/211- 551/525- 117 and LS6 intake. Tire size 245/50/16. Do I really need a stall converter? Won't be drag racing it, just want a smooth-running daily driver.

I bet that cam feels a little soggy down low. Advance it 4 or 5 degrees to bring the IVC in a little earlier, and it will pep right up.

I don't know I haven't installed it yet but you may have a point there, I'll look into it. It is a very popular cam for the 5.3 built for a daily driver. I did some research and found that a Trailblazer 4.2 converter is a step up in stall speed and will bolt right up to my 4l65e trans. It's a cheap upgrade and though it doesn't add hp it does lower et's.
