Okay, alternator smart guys...
I swapped out for a 4 pin alternator that was supposed to be a dr44g. Turns out I was a victim of bait and switch (the picture didnt match the description) and got an ADR0430 (I cant find much on this). I had another regulator that was 4-pin and self exciting. I swapped the regulator to the self exciting one and hook it up. It doesn't charge. I took a 4 pin connector and put in a 470ohm resistor on the L terminal. No combination of putting 12vdc to the L, F, S pins would get it to charge.
I pulled the alternator again and swapped back to the original voltage regulator. Installed it and fired it up with the electrical connector disconnected (only the battery wire connected to the stud) and it was overcharging. It started out at 16 volts, slowly came down to high 14s at idle, but a short rev of the engine pushed it up passed 17 and started causing gauge cluster issues. I plugged in the 4 pin connector and no combination of applying 12v to the three L,, F, and S wires would get the voltage to come down.
I would appreciate any ideas on what I've missed or if its possible I have two bad regulators with different symptoms. TIA
