Default Harness swapping questions.

I read through a couple write ups of putting the LS1 harness in LT1. My 94z28 is torn apart with no motor or trans and doing a built build over time. Parts I’m confused about is how do I separate my LT1 engine harness with just the engine part of the harness? Since the harness from pcm runs to the headlights, horns up front and then on the other side the fuse box.. where does it come apart at so I’m just removing the engine harness with sensor connects and such?

When I get my LS1 harness am I suppose to get the LS1 fuse box as well?

Can I just remove the OBD2 harness form a LS1 and wire it up in place where my OBD1 was?

Also I did the passengerside wire mod in wheel well and does the LS1 harness plug into the the connector that’s connected to harness that goes towards headlights?

Now I have deleted all HVAC, ABS,Cruise,Traction control, and emissions control stuff.

Also I assume I shouldn’t cut anything until I get the LS1 harness?

Thanks for any help 👍

Bump anyone?

Got the whole engine harness out. Is it going to be hard to remove the LS1 harness from a LS1 in the junkyard? Anyone have experience with that and what all I need to pull out for the swap into my LT1.

Which LT1 engine are you asking about? I'm guessing 1992-97. GM has built several "LT1" engines over the years. I would not pull the LS1 fuse box. I would use whatever fuse box is in the target vehicle.

Pulling an LS harness is not difficult. Snip the clips, go slowly. Don't pull hard on wire bundles or you will either break wires or scrape away insulation.

Grab the PCM in the donor vehicle and the electronic throttle pedal.

No, OBD1 wiring is ancient and different than OBD2. I don't see that much of your original LT1 harness will be applicable other than maybe the heavy battery and starter wires.

Yes I stated it’s my 94z28. Thing is I will need a OBD2 connection though so your saying I can’t just remove one from a LS1 car and wire it in where the OBD1 was?

Okay on the LT1 fuses, yes on the pcm which I planned. Then all I need is the electric throttle pedal?

Yes you can remove an OBD2 from donor vehicle and install it in yours. You can buy a new OBD2 off Amazon for $10 if you need to. If you are getting an actual LS1 from a camaro or GTO it will not have an electronic pedal or throttle body. They are drive by cable setups. If you are getting an iron block donor from a truck or van then check and see if the throttle body is drive by wire or cable. If it's drive by wire get the pedal and harness as well.
