Default 1965 Cadillac Sedan Deville

Need help- I have a ‘65 Cadillac Sedan Deville, would like to replace/upgrade the 429 engine. What would be the best option for fit and optimal horsepower given the size of car? I’m not hotrodding it by all means. Just wanting the power to get it moving without tearing it up and enjoying a good faster cruising car.
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Almost any LS3 based engine would be best, for sure if you can afford an LSA either Cadillac or Camaro would be ideal. There are a couple of swap threads on here for ideas. Good luck with your swap.

Thank you for the advice. I’ll look into it. I’m not real knowledgeable about mechanics so I’ll have an expert working this restoration for me. Money isn’t a big issue. Just doing some research to see what someone in my situation would choose.

If money is not an issue, an LSA swap would be super cool, and keep it somewhat "Caddilac".

Default LSA 6.2L with 4L85-E

Do you think there would be a lot of modification needed to use the LSA W/4L85-E tranny?
it currently has a TH-400

I would even say that any 6.2L Vortec truck engine will do a great job moving the Caddy.

you can buy a GM package that's exactly that - LSA with 4l85e

I'm actually in the middle of doing a 5.3 swap into a 1953 Cadillac. The Cadillac weighs about 4500 lbs and the 5.3 came out of a 04 Yukon. I'd imagine they're about the same weight.

I would say a truck engine may do a little better than LS3 as they have more low end torque to get all that moving

^^^^^This. That Caddy is likely heavier than any truck that engine had to lug around.

Get a complete engine pullout with transmission/accessories/wiring harness which are posted up every single day on FB in the LSx Parts Sale & Trade group (100K+ members). For under $5K you can get some really good complete deals on 6.0/4L80E or 6.2 engines/6L80E setups. Also check out car-part.com which is the largest directory of online junkyards in the nation!

While a 5.3 definitely moves a Tahoe around... the extra .7 or .9 liters from the 6.0/6.2 is really needed for the extra torque. Add a medium size cam with long tube headers and gain over 75hp easily with a tune.

are you swaping it into an old Cadillac? If so, what year, I just finished up swaping one into a '53. I might be able to answer your questions....

I have a 66 deville convertible. I'm trying to figure out thd motor mounts. The 429 engine mounts r toward the front of the block. And the LS mounts r more toward the center of the block.

depending on your headers, Dirty Dingo has mounts that's slide the motor mounts toward the front of the motor. Almost under the front cylinders.
my issue was the stock steering gear box took up a lot of room on the drivers side. There wasn't enough real estate for a header, gear box and motor mount. I had to use a motor plate instead of motor mounts...

Thx. My deville gearbox is located closer to the firewall. So that would not be an issue.
