69 Camaro build with 2012 SS donor
I have a good buddy who does paint and body work and has done a couple restorations in his day as well. He's doing most of the work, but I dig in and do what I can when I can. I bought the 2012 SS donor car about 2 years ago now I think - sweet ride, only 13k miles I believe. Ran great when I got it from the insurance auction. So, the plan is to incorporate as much of the 2012 into the 69 interior as possible - with that, we took the entire dash, steering column, wiring harness, shifter and tunnel (the 69 tunnel was too narrow for the 6L80e), front seats, console, etc and are morphing it into the 69. Going along pretty good - did run into a snag w/ the exhaust manifold not clearing the PS box, so I guess we'll go headers?, had to modify the cross member slightly for a little extra clearance at the AC pump, seats fit nicely, dash fits pretty good - just going to recover the top section w/ leather to match the seats now that we've changed it a little.
The issue now is just getting it past this stupid theft deterrent system error -- we have all the 2012 components in this car other than ABS. No 2012 body panels or anything, but the ECM, BCM, etc are all with it. I still have the donor car too, so hopefully we'll get it sorted out soon. It did run and drive fine, before we pulled the engine/trans.
