Default New to LS questions

Hey guys,

So I just got my first junkyard LS. Came out of a 2004 z71 suburban (5.3 with 4l60 and getting rid of the transfer case) and is going into a 1968 c20. I have everything except the ECU. The only thing I plan to modify internally is the cam, ls7 lifters, and maybe new springs if y’all recommend that. On top I would like to run a carb set up.

So the real question is do I run an ez tcu with msd ignition controller, or just get a Holley sniper to do it all (to my understanding).

Or am I really just making things too complicated and I should keep it fuel injected with a stock ecu and a tune for the cam?

IMO, this: "Or am I really just making things too complicated and I should keep it fuel injected with a stock ecu and a tune for the cam?"

Stock ecm and a tune will work just fine. If you do go with an aftermarket cam I would add new push rods to the list.
Also assuming the engine has a good amount of miles on it I would put in a new oil pump and timing chain. New balancer seal and rear crank seal.

Run the holley terminator kit. I wish I would have gone that route instead of using stock stuff

I agree with this 100%. If you are starting from scratch, you are way better off going with the Terminator X Max. Andrew is on here all the time too and can help with remote tuning. He's been a huge help for me during my LSA swap.

Terminator X (Max, in your case) works very well, and is easy, if you take the take to download and read the instructions. The only 2 issues there are: Some quality control issues on the harnesses, some have issues, most dont. And then it's on backorder for a few months in most cases.

But if you can get it, it's a easy to use system, and has some real benefits over stock ECUs. By the time you get an ignition controller, carb, carbed intake, and transmission controller, you'd be at the same cost as the holley.

I would suggest new springs/retainers/locks. Match them to your lift needs, whether its singe or doubles. No need for anything fancy (titanium).

Sure, aftermarket stuff works, but, if you just want a camshaft, why bother? The stock electronics will work great, all you need is the ECU, and you will need a tune anyway (to remove the VATS, if you only use 2 O2 sensors...). Keep it simple!
