Default 2010-2015 Camaro LS3 in 63 Nova

Hi everyone,
Im going to join the crowd and LS my Nova. Im obviously not the first but I’m not seeing many using the 2010-2015 Camaro drivetrains. Is there a reason for that? I plan to use the manual trans and keep the factory controller and use EFI Live that I already have. I see the speedometer dilemma and got some things to consider from threepedals.com. Are there downsides, interchangeability issues? I know I’ll have to run the pedal, change the fuel tank, etc etc. but I’m seeing more swaps with earlier LS’s than with this drivetrain. My biggest concern is where the shifter is going to end up on the tunnel. I see it can be moved from its semi remote location forward which I think would help me greatly as I have aftermarket bucket seats and plenty of room and no console but I obviously want the shifter to be close to a comfortable spot. I am not seeing any dimensions on that trans anywhere.

Call American Powertrain about shifter positions, as they sell Tremec trannies.
The reason not many use fifth gen Camaro drivetrains is because they are more expensive, plus truck drivetrains (5.3and 6.0) are FAR more common and WAY cheaper.

Thank you for the reply. So cost mostly? Nothing specific to the gen 5 camaros in the wiring, access to the controller, etc?

Nothing wrong with the 2010 Camaro driveline other than a couple changes you'll need to make, The shifter as you mentioned and the other is the driveshaft, The Camaro is IRS so the trans has a mounting flange on the tail instead of a slip yoke. What that means is you'll have to have to have a driveshaft built with a slip yoke built into it or convert the trans. You should do a cost comparison on the trans setup. Compare cost to use the stock Camaro trans including shifter mod/Driveshaft or trans modification and last but no least cost to make a speedo work....Then look at the cost of the Tremec Magnum 6-speed that is better suited for your application, It's essentially the same trans but handles more power, Already setup for the correct shifter location/Driveshaft and has a speedometer output. Magnum 6-Speed Rear-Wheel Drive Manual Transmission Speedway Motors and others sell it as a complete kit with everything needed to swap into cars like yours.

Thanks for the replies. I had no idea converting the trans to (basically) a T56 was a possibility. It’s not even terribly expensive really. My search is getting narrower. It seems I will need a 2010-2012 drivetrain as these still run a power steering pump and not electric assist steering.
