Default oil leak after installing rear main-while parked

so my LS1 I noticed leaks about a 2" diameter puddle a week of oil of sitting. I haven't worked on it much in two months as I've been busy this summer with work. the rear main seal, pan gasket and rear cover were all replaced with fel pro products. I followed the guidelines on how to align the cover but I did not use the tool. Just the one that came with the kit on Amazon. What would cause it to leak when parked? I wouldnt think oil level is high enough to cover the crank seal.
Should I just bit e the bullet and pull the tranny to diagnose?
thanks
tony

What kit? Is this a auto or stick vehicle?

I thought mine was leaking at the seal. Upon further investigation it was leaking and running down the pan rail and dripping off near the seal due to me forgetting to dab some silicone in the 4 corners where the block meets the front and rear covers…

Yes without the RTV in the corners it will mimic a rear seal leak.

Did you inspect the seal and install with the "this side out" letters out?

I did double check the rear seal outside notation. Also did dab on some rtv at the corners. It's a t56 tranny, all going in a 65 f100

I thought I seen something about the flywheel to crank bolts Can leak oil if sealer isn’t applied as the holes go into the engine. Not sure if that’s early years or not

I’d pull out a bolt to see if it’s wet on the end. When I seen this issue, I was surprised as I never seen it on here be talked about before.

please keep the forum informed once you find the culprit

I second checking the flexplate or flywheel bolts as a source.

I pulled the tranny today. I think I found the issue. One of the rear long oil pan 10mm bolts is leaking through the threads. Can I just put sealant on it? It's weird that it's leaking. I did not find any oil around the cover gasket oil crankshaft gasket. Oh, and I remember now putting extra rtv after I mated the two together. There's also rtv between the pan and rear cover. There was no sealant on the flywheel bolts and they were dry.

The rear 6mm long bolts (10mm head) go into blind holes in the rear main cover. If you're using felrpo pan gasket, the rubber is too thick and hard and will split at the corners when torqued and leak. I recommend GM pan gaskets, no problems. Did you replace the rear cover gasket? It fails like the oil pan gasket when the seal separates from the alum frame.

I did use felpro pan gasket. I realized I installed the pan gasket before the cover gasket too. Maybe that failed?

I replaced the pan seal today and found the issue. When I installed the rear cover, the pan was in pace first. I'm sure I tore it doing it this way

I have a 2000 LS1 that is leaking oil and my winter project is to find the source. I suspect it is coming from the oil pan but unsure. Suggestions on where to start?

Clean whole area, then look for seepage.
