Question Headers for 68 Camaro - current ones hitting

Hey all,

Trying to point my friend in the right direction for headers for his 68 Camaro LS3 swap. He bought a set of used D3347 headers, but they appear to hit the motor mounts he's using on the driver side, and seem like they might also hit the steering linkage on the passenger side. They also didn't clear the Powermaster starter he has. I'd like to find him a combo that will work, whether that means changing the headers, starter, motor mounts, etc.

Driver header hits here:

These are the headers he has (D3347):

Doing some searches it looks like there are a variety of headers that might work, but they seem to require specific mounts, starters, idler arm bolt directions, etc.

Cheers!

The Holley Blackheart system may be what you're looking for.

Engine mounts, transmission mounts, and headers all designed to work together and fit correctly. They're pricey, but take the guess work or trial and error out of it.

I haven't purchased the headers yet, but I bought the engine and trans mounts. I bought half of it through Summit and half of it through Tick, because that's how I could find it in stock and ready to ship.

I would look at Speed Engineering.

Blackhearts are nice headers, I had a set but they didn't fit my sub, I have a custom AME copy, I would have used them and mounts if I had kept my GM subframe,

A friend of mine is running a set of hooker blackhart headers that we modified to clear the steering shaft. No issues on passenger side with oem starter

Looks like he already has the Holley 302-3 (or knockoff version), so I would highly suggest going with the Hooker engine mounts that sit the motor lower and back. There's also a guy here who used those mounts and the speed engineering headers and they fit really well. I do think he had to slightly modify for the steering box, but it was minor. If the starter still gives issues with this combo, I'd ditch it for a stock LS3.

The Speed Engineering headers look like a great deal. A lot of people use them from what I’ve seen. I wish they were around when I went those this same dilemma.

I have BRP mounts, a Holley pan and Hedman headers on my 67 with an LS1. They fit great with Zero issues.

THanks all for the suggestions. Hopefully across them all we can find a combo that works well for him.
