I'm looking at a 1978 trans am. They put an ls3 motor in it and are claiming it's a 6.7 liter. Does that mean the ls3 is stroked to a 408? I'm new and green to this but what the hell does it mean and does a ls3 6.7 make any sense, if so how do you get there and is that a good build?
Usually a stroked LS3 is 416", give or take, depending on the clean up bore. I would be very careful to understand what you are looking at.
Many people will call any random Gen 3/4 engine an LS1 or LS3 etc... People will call them LS3s either to cheat you, or they think all rectangle port engines are LS3s. So, for example, it could be an LY6 iron 6.0 truck engine with a 4" crank, they have rec port heads.
Check the heads, check the block. Ask them the details of what the heck it is..
