L76 into a 3rd gen questions
I'll apologize in advance as im sure most things I'll ask are somewhere on the forums already. I just don't have the free time I used to, to do deep research. Had to go back to 3rd shift so I can watch son during the day. So I appreciate all the help I can get here or a point to the right direction.
I picked up a L76 from a G8 last week, to put into my 84 Trans Am. As soon as I build my account up again I'll be on the look out for a T56.
As you can see I have to piece it together as previous owner kept most the parts since he's swapping a LS3 into his G8.
things i know about this L76
has 110ish k mi on it.
This is list from P.O. of things done 500ish mi ago.
Ls7 lifters, thumper cam, new timing chain, tensioner, timing gear, lifter trays, LS9 head gaskets, oil pump, gaskets, arp crank bolt, arp head bolts, exhuast gaskets, oil pressure switch, valley cover is non dod, ls3 intake, valve seals, dual btr valve springs. I probably missing something. 😕
so big ? is a harness. I've looked at the holley terminator max x and PSI. They both look fairly simple and I like the tuning capabilities of the holley but like the fact I get a OBD port for diagnostics with the PSI. I'm still unsure if I'm going DBW or DBC.
If I decided to save some money and build my own harness and do DBW I'm assuming I'd just be looking for another G8 harness, ECU and pedal? Is this the best way to keep cruise control as well?
If I go DBC do I just buy the 58x to 24x convert box and then any 24x DBC harness and ecu? Or does it have to be certain ones? Will gen 3 harness work with adaptors? Can I even keep cruise control this way? As most I can find plenty of truck harnesses and ECU's in local bone yards easily and 4th gen fbody ones on ebay seam easy to find. G8 stuff seames hard to find, even for front drive accessories and brackets.
I know I'll have plenty more questions as i go. I know I'll have some on the steam port set up and how that works/gets routed.
Again appreciate all the help I can get.
I'll put a couple pictures of the car as well. I've had it since I was 15 and only drove it for a month before the 305 let go. It's been sitting ever since. Finally started tearing into it about 2 years ago.
When i first bought it
Another from when i first got it
Fast forward 20 years later. Car had been stored in back woods and a barn during that time before i had a garage of my own.
