Anybody happen to know what is different in regards to a Diesel 6L90E vs a Gas one? Looking at part numbers the Express van 6.6L Duramax looks to the same flexplate and pieces ahead of the bellhousing between a 4L85E and 6L90E. The 4L85E looks to have had one spacing dimension from the converter face to the bellhousing face. If nothing changed ahead of the trans the diesel 6L90E should be the same dimension. The 6 bolt converter bolt pattern is listed as the same between a 4L80E, 4L85E and 6L90E. The converter pilot is also listed to be the same diameter. So why would a diesel 6L90E not bolt to a small block or big block with the standard 4L80E 6 bolt flexplate? One company wanting to sell a $$$$ custom 6L80E/6L90E converter for the swap states it will not fit but other than that I have found zero information. I have found one guy that bolted a 6L80E gas transmission directly to a L31 using the stock 6L80E gas converter. I also verified the valve body part number is the same which means the TCM hardware is the same. Would a 6L90E from a diesel van not bolt to a SBC and the TCM merely need to be flashed for a 6.0L gas van? Planning ahead for a 58x E67 run SBC/6L90E conversion, FWIW. I am also finding low mileage diesel 6L90Es with less than 50K for under $1500. Other than the fact the dowl pins stuck in the case on removal I am not seeing a difference. The diesel bellhousing also has all 7 bolts that line up with the older pattern.
