4l60e issies I've I've got a 1996 5.7 GMC 4L60E transmission and I'm swapping into a 2002 5.3 Silverado is they're both 4x4 transmissions but the thing is is that I can't nothing works on this transmission I've heard some stories about a wiring trick in the block but yet I've done that and still nothing no go on the Go-Go so please help
Will not work-EASILY... But can be made to work. The problems are...... different input shaft and torque converter. The 96 converter likely will NOT bolt to your 02 flywheel unless your 02 flywheel has dual bolt pattern. The 96 has a 298 MM input shaft, and the 02 has a 300... So, different converter spacing, and different bolt spacing where the flywheel bolts to the converter. Also, in 96 there was a 3 piece case, and a 1 piece case.. If your 96 is a 1 piece case-FORGET about it. Cooler lines come in at a different angle, filler tube is at a different angle, trans mount is in different location (I think from memory), shallow pan on the 96.. The internal wiring is IDENTICAL between the 96 and 02... so that's not your issue. Harness connector is the same as well-no changes. I don't know why you are attempting this.. but I think the faster, safer, more better approach would be to keep the 02 unit in the 02 vehicle. If it needs rebuilt-then it just needs to be rebuilt. If you don't have the money... then stuffing the 96 unit in there is not going to be as cheap, or easy, as you think it is. Also, the 96 trans WILL NOT have a bolt hole for the 12 O' clock position on the bellhousing, and your 02 block will have a non-drilled absent hole at 1:30, so you will be down 2 bolts holding the engine to trans. Not a problem... but still.. not recommended.
