Does anyone have GM's. crate LS3 340hp engine or BluePrint's LS3 540hp engines. Looking to find out what gas milage you're getting and what your experience was.
I have 69 Camaro with 4L60E trans and stock rear end. Curious what the mpg would be with both engines. All you help and input is greatly appreciated.
I have not heard good things mileage-wise about the 540 horse version of this motor. I had an EROD LS3 (430 horse) in a Trans Am; best it did was 23 mpg. The higher horse version is supposedly significantly worse.
This was the main reason I went with a 5.3 Gen V crate - hopefuly this does a lot better!
There are some good deals on LS3 longblocks right now new from GM with 2 year warranty. I would get one of those and simply change the cam if you want more power.... Stage1 BTR would give good power increase, great driver still, and not affect fuel economy too much.
Not a BP or GM engine but I had a sleeved and stroked LS2 to 427 cubes. Just short of 500 rwhp on the chassis dyno. 4L60E behind it. 3.73 gears. Was in a 67 Nova. So a fairly light car with the aero of a brick. On the Power Tour on the highway we did 18 plus mpg.
So why are you so worried about gas mileage. Is it a commuter car? LOL.
