Default Hello, Here for info?

Looking for information on a LS swap into a 90 Vanagon. Looked at Renegade Hydrides kit for the 911 and it looked promising. Most of what I'm interested in is control of the motor. All the other hardware I've researched and have a decent plan for the physical install. It is going to be attached to a 6 speed from a 997.
Other question is it better to get the whole car or try to purchase piecemeal. Looking for a Corvette LS1 as it has the lowest profile in stock form.

Additional Considerations Before making a final decision, keep in mind:
- Engine Compatibility: Verify that the LS1 engine is compatible with your Vanagon's transmission and drivetrain.
- California Emissions: If you're planning to register your vehicle in California, ensure the engine swap meets the state's emissions regulations ¹.
- Professional Help: Consider consulting a professional mechanic or engine swap specialist to ensure a smooth and successful installation process. By carefully considering these factors, you'll be well on your way to completing a successful LS swap into your 90 Vanagon.

A LS swap into a 90 Vanagon sounds like an exciting project. The Renegade Hydrides kit for the 911 is a great starting point, especially since you're interested in controlling the motor.
Controlling the Motor - To achieve optimal control, you'll want to focus on the engine management system. Since you're looking at a Corvette LS1 engine, you'll need to ensure the engine computer (ECU) is compatible with your setup. You may need to invest in a standalone ECU or a wiring harness specifically designed for your engine swap.
Physical Installation - With your research and plan in place for the physical installation, you're off to a great start. The 6-speed transmission from a 993 will be a fantastic addition to your project.
Whole Car vs. Piecemeal Purchase - When deciding whether to purchase a whole car or individual components, consider the following:
- Whole Car: Buying a complete Corvette with an LS1 engine can provide a more straightforward installation process, as all the necessary components are already present. However, this option may be more expensive, and you'll need to consider the cost of removing and transporting the engine.
- Piecemeal Purchase: Buying individual components can be more budget-friendly, but it may require more time and effort to source the correct parts. Ensure you're purchasing from reputable sellers to avoid compatibility issues.

bot replies ^ lol

as far as control of the motor you could run a standalone harness with factory PCM or one of many aftermarket standalone options

not worth getting a whole vehicle to just rob a motor from IMO

and really you can use any LS long block but you will want the corvette style accessory drive and car style intake manifold for the most clearance
