Who builds GMPP performance crate engines?
Looking into buying a bone stock LS3, and I’ve noticed somewhat of a trend of negative recent reviews of Chevrolet Performance/GMPP LS crate engines (LS3 , LS376 long block, etc). Engine failures, etc. Granted, these could be isolated cases of failure, but still concerning.
When these were production engines, my understanding is that they were simply LS3’s picked off of the standard Vette/Camaro production engine line. With what I’d assume to be better quality control? With that being said, does anyone have info on who is building these crate engines now, or where they are being assembled?
My internal dialogue is that if the original production line engines were indeed better (and if they’re now being built by a 3rd party company), a low mileage bone stock drop out may be a more reliable and (undoubtedly cheaper) option. Anyone have possible insight into this?
