Default VSS for E67 crate engine OS

I'm running the 525hp crate engine with the E67 ECU that CPP sells for that engine. It has a twisted pair to connect to the VSS on the 4L80e I'm running behind the engine (stand-alone controller--don't ask). I use HP Tuners to calibrate this engine. On the Speedo tab of the VCM editor, there is a selection for Speed Output Type (heading is Hardware); WheelSpd, VehSerial and VehRep TOS. There is also a selection for Vehicle Speed Output (heading is Vehicle Speed Sensor); Disabled, Rep TOS and Serial. There are no wheel speed sensors on this 60-year-old vehicle. Are these selections used to define the type of signal input to the E67or for a speedometer signal that it can output on a separate circuit (or CAN bus)?

If this isn't going to calibrate the ECU's speed calculation, what is used to calibrate the speed calc with the VSS connected? Any advice is appreciated!

This might be helpful. It shows VSS out.

Thanks for the reply on this. Yes, I’m aware that the bulkhead connector has a VSS Out circuit (brown wire), but I’m looking at the screens on HP tuners trying to figure out how to calibrate the ECU so it will calculate speed correctly using the VSS In signal. Not sure if it’s the selections on the Speedometer tab or something else.

Assuming GMPP E67 manual controller, isn't it already on RepTOS for both VSS input to ECM & output from ECM to speedo?

Thanks for the input, rsz288. That was really the question I asked. The Speedometer tab in HPT doesn't specify whether these settings are for signal input or output. The Hardware/Speed Output Type setting was set to "VehSerial", The Vehicle Speed Sensor/Vehicle Speed Output is set to RepTos and the Wheel Speed Sensor/Wheel Speed Output is set to "Enabled" (there are no wheel speed sensors). I went ahead and connected the twisted pair labeled "TOSS" in the ECU harness to the transmission output shaft speed sensor (paralleled it with the pair in the TCU harness and the damned thing worked! I used the Gear/Tire Wizard to correct the rear gear ratio and the Vehicle Speed PID in the HPT Scanner matched almost exactly to the display from the TCU and the speedometer (driven by the TCU); previously, it just read zero when there was no input on that TOSS circuit. So, problem solved and I think the Speedometer tab in the HPT Editor is solely for speed output from the ECU to the CAN bus and/or pins on the ECU connector.

Thanks for sharing that info, i'll try that when i have my clutch mounted.
I have speedhut meters so i will use the brown wire also.

You're welcome. Great to hear it's working well! 👍
